It's hard to describe, but you only have to sink your fingers into natural wool to appreciate its magical qualities. It's a tactile experience that is not only appealing, but also sparks creativity and imagination. This fine book offers many craft and project ideas using this delightful medium. The brightly colored photographs are inspiring in themselves! The first part of the book deals with creating wool pictures, including techniques and many examples of classic stories. Next are projects for making woolen dolls, gnomes and animals, some with a wire substructure that gives them flexibility. The last chapter gives practical advice and techniques for using unspun sheep's wool in a group setting with young children and includes a puppet script. A motivational and useful addition to your craft library.

More Magic Wool: Creating Figures and Pictures With Dyed Wool
By Angelika Wolk-Gerche
Paperback, 79 pages
This one isn't a repeat of the first book in this series -- not at all! Instead it focuses more on creating small figures, toys and dolls, fairies and landscapes for a Seasonal Table. The projects are breathtaking, although very easy if you understand the basics of felting and winding wool. It also contains a short, but detailed section on dyeing wool using plants and other natural materials. (Even if you don't dye your own wool, you'll appreciate the process.) The hand-felted interactive play mats, complete with hidden spaces, are a completely new idea that children will enjoy using with their new felted animals and dolls. There are so many delightful ideas in this book, you and your children won't know where to start!
With these Felter's Fleece Variety packs, you can explore the wonder of working with your hands to create magic with wool. Each package gives you 3 oz. of soft, beautiful wool fleece in four colors, a packet of nubs and pencil roving for decorating your projects, and complete instructions. This is enough to do several projects and all you need is the fleece, soap and water! Other uses of the wool are needle felting, creating figures and dolls, or designing wool pictures. I have done felting with my students for years and they LOVE it! Choose from three colorways.

The Art of Feltmaking
By Anne Einset Vickrey
Paperback, 144 pages with index
Just looking through this book motivated me to gather my carded wool and start felting! It's so incredibly easy, even young children can do it with very little assistance. This comprehensive guide starts with the basics, such as dyeing wool with soft drink powers, felting ropes, beads and balls. Then it gradually moves into more advanced projects, such as creating dolls, a menagerie of small animals, puppets, mittens, hats, slippers and more. The photographs are informative, colorful and exciting. A must for anyone even mildly interested in this traditional craft!

Wool Roving: The Hair Color Collection
Eight different true-to-life hair colors!
This 100% wool roving is excellent for small dolls or baby dolls when you want a truly natural look. The fibers are much finer than yarn, which makes the hair look “real.” It can be attached to your doll’s head in several ways: Sew down the center to create a part, then glue or sew onto the head; or needle felt it directly into your cloth doll’s head. It can be easily styled into braids or pigtails. (This is the type of hair we use on our tiny Flower Fairy dolls.) This collection of earthtones includes eight colors for all stages of life: Auburn (nutmeg), Black, Dark Brown (chocolate), Light Brown (cocoa), Redhead (pumpkin), Golden Blonde (camel), Aging Brunette (brick is a blend of the browns and auburn with light streaks of grey) and Silver-Gray (smoke). You will receive a 12” length of each color, for a total weight of 55 grams.

Bulky Felting Yarn/Pencil Roving Assortment
100% wool, over 90 feet in total length
A Silver Penny exclusive!
This is the most ingenious product because it has multiple uses for felting. This 100% wool bulky yarn is very loosely spun and, used directly from the package, is wonderful for needle or wet felting. But untwist it slightly and it becomes pencil roving. Twist just a little tighter and the yarn becomes thinner for more precise placement and crisp lines. The uses of this product are varied – it is perfect for clothing embellishment, creating wool pictures, fashioning or outlining a needle felted motif, making felted jewelry, enhancing 3-D needle felted sculptures or use when only a small amount of color is needed. This assortment package contains a total of more than 29 yards of nine beautiful, vibrant colors (approximately 3¼ yards of each): Black, White, Orange Poppy, Tundra Green, Bermuda Blue, Red Rose, Garnet, Iris and Violet.
Thirty-two colorful 100% wool beads in three different sizes: eight 2 cm, twelve 1 cm, and twelve 7 mm beads. Create beautiful felted jewelry or embellish clothes, art quilts, penny rugs, dolls, use them in your needle felted projects and more! Imported from Nepal.

Premium Wool Batting
Cleaned and carded natural, undyed wool is perfect for felting. Because of its more economical cost, use it as a base to your sculptures or felted figures, then cover only the outer layer with the more expensive roving. It felts easily and actually softens your hands as you work with it! I love it and find it a pleasure to use.
